rEPETA [FURNITURE COLLECTION]
The Repeta collection offers a range of concrete objects for hospitality industry, with a focus on sustainability both in material and ideological terms. Repeta, which refers to circularity in its name, is the new joint project of sarakele studio and Concrazy, developed within the framework of the HFDA DesignLab incubation program.
During the project, the designer and manufacturer duo placed great emphasis on material experiments. The main idea behind the collection is to give new life to so-called waste materials - such as construction debris or organic waste - by creating a novel material combination. The layering of different mixes and the alternation between polished and raw surfaces give the objects a unique character, the surfaces are treated like canvases. Using this technique, objects built from geometric basic shapes become abstract visual creations.
The collection also pays tribute to our architectural values on an ideological level. It draws on the characteristic buildings of historical architectural eras, often incorporating specific, already demolished structures. The wall panels carry abstract transformations of the original building's façade, decorations and structure. The absence and breaking of the geometric forms on the objects refers to the state of lack caused by demolitions. The three sample collections so far have drawn on architectural treasures are inspired by the hungarian architectural heritage: such as Budapest's Bauhaus villas, buildings from the modernism as the Ernő Léstyán's transformer houseor the already-demolished cargo-handling building by Csaba Virág, and the third collection is inspired by the former classicist buildings of the Sacre Coeur Monastery on Dürer promenade in Budapest. By using this abstraction method further tile collection can be created for individual needs in order to preserve the architecture values of valuable buildings condemned for demolition.
The Repeta product line includes items for both indoor and outdoor use for the whole space, from entrance to restrooms (benches, planters, sinks, mirrors, wall panels). The objects designed by sarakele studio (Sára Kele, Anna Cserba) carry uniqueness within the concept, yet can be easily mass-produced in a manufacturing setting at Concrazy's workshop.
